Did you notice we’re now offering a new section dedicated to Sales Blads?
So what is a Blad? The word “blad,” which is exclusive to book publishing, comes from Book Layout And Design. It’s essentially a brief representation of the actual book that can be used as an affordable sales tool, whether to retailers or, as an author, to prospective publishers or book reviewers. This booklet consists of the cover and (usually) 8 pages from the book. Blad jackets and pages are printed from the actual book, usually using the same stock as the finished book. Blads are mostly used for illustrated books only, and they are — of course — less expensive to both print and ship than either advance review copies (ARC’s) or the finished book. They’re a great way to illustrate the layout, structure and visual language of a book.
